The Zumelle Castle stands on top of a hill allowing to dominate the entire Val Belluna. It can be reached with an interesting detour departing from the main route for about 9 km, among ancient rural villages, valleys and dense deciduous woods.
Probably already fortified in pre-Roman times, it was an important transit point between the Praderàdego pass, the road junction towards the Municipium of Feltre, and the Roman military road Via Claudia Augusta, which connected the Venetian lagoon with the Danube.
Destroyed and rebuilt several times over the centuries, it is certainly the best preserved fortified medieval military structure in Val Belluna. Surrounded by a still intact natural area, the castle allows to immerse oneself in the history and atmosphere of the High Middle Ages.
